This week’s EOW (Environment of the week) over at conceptart.org is the Garden of the Fairy Queen:
“From the real to the unreal. The Faerie create a garden as a tribute to the Faerie Queen, the woodland halls are decked and warded. She walks tonight. Is all prepared?”
I’m pretty sure I’m not going to finish in time, but it’s nice to finally have some kind of inspiration- I work best with art direction. Anyway, here’s a screen shot of my version. I really like the idea of bioluminescence, plus if *I* was the fairy queen, I would want to be tiny and have my city take advantage of the awesomeness of shelf fungi.
also, here’s the link in case that doesn’t work for whatever reason.
lip sync (work in progress)- of mortimer. Audio is from Doctor Who. Just mapping out his key poses and starting on some of his in between. No actual mouth movements yet (and yes, i realize he doesn’t actually have lips )
finally done rigging mortimer for the most part (for the second time…oy). Working on setting up some fur systems for him and finalizing things. We have a turntable and a walk cycle due this week, so you know.
Been sick, haven’t had time to update. But here’s Mortimer, in all his textured and colored glory.
(as per usual, click the thumb for the nice big image)
and a roundish sea goddess in progress (I have been accused of drawing only tall angular people, which is probably because myself and much of my family are tall and angular for the most part- but it’s a bad habit, so expect more rounder types…)
Sorry, been busy uv-ing stuff- too busy even to update! Mortimer’s turned out to be a pain in the butt to uv in maya- doable, but annoying, so I’m going to try to use Head Us to do his uvs.
So I started a second character (her name is currently Kieve)- she’s from a race of desert cat-people- so right now she’s kind of bare (literally), but will be modeling armor as separate pieces. But here’s her wips:
Plus whole body stuff. The weird cards you see are actually alpha cards- basically they’ll be feather and/or fur groups. He looks silly now, but once he’s textured and all he should look more realistic-y (hopefully). Also some renders of how he looks currently.
Worked on the hands and re-doing the feet (the old ones looked too weird and blobby, though the new ones were a major pain to model- eventually had to take them into Zbrush and re-top the hard way. They look better though). The hands I did in maya, and I’m pretty pleased with how they’re turning out. The claws are separate and will extend/retract like cat’s claws (the claws on his feet will not be retractable, more like dog/cheetah claws). Speaking of hands, mine are freezing and it’s hard to type.

Some of the lighting isn’t quite there yet, but it’s looking a lot better! Remind me next time I want to do a needlessly complicated scene…well not to. Won’t be able to do a full fly through (I don’t think), as maya freaks out if all the layers are on at the same time…sigh.
